PL KICKS

PL KicksPL KICKS is a FREE and inclusive Football session that encourages young people aged 12-19 to become engaged in a fun, safe community venue within areas that are susceptible to crime and social exclusion.

The project aims to build a safer, stronger community through the development of young people, both personally and in a sporting context. The sessions allow the young participants, including minority groups, to get involved in their community. The programme has proven to break down barriers between participants and the Police, and also the Youth workers in their areas who are actively involved in the Kicks projects.

In the Inclusion remit of Argyle Community Trust, all of our community sessions are delivered in areas prone to high rates of crime and anti-social behaviour. These sessions are a means of diverting young people away from negative behavioural influences in the evenings. Each Kicks session focuses on football training and matches, encouraging the youngsters to make new friends, whilst learning transferable skills, which are vital in their development.

Since the Kicks sessions began in 2008, crime and anti-social behaviour has been reduced by 41% within the area, with many Kicks participants gaining various qualifications and jobs supported by the Trust. A number of Kicks participants, who showed a great willingness to improve their personal development, have been rewarded with employment opportunities within the Trust, as well as educational scholarships following their successful engagement with the project.

The Kicks Cup is a massive nationally run tournament held at various Premier League training grounds once a year in which Plymouth Argyle are represented by a selected group of Kicks participants, whose continued attendance and positive attitude is recognised by their selection for the National Tournament.

Kicks participants who are willing to put the required effort in to improve and are seeking extra opportunities to play are pushed towards attending the Kicks Academy sessions, held at a neutral venue in the City, incorporating all current Kicks venues.

All sessions currently running are listed below, those wishing to enrol and start participating in a project in Plymouth can simply turn up, fill in a very quick sign up form and start playing immediately for free.
