NATIONAL CITIZENSHIP SERVICE
ARGYLE Community Trust is proud to be a fully established partner in delivering the National Citizen Service (NCS) Programme.
The project creates a once in a life time opportunity to undertake outdoor activities, sports, live independently, gain nationally recognized qualifications and help build relations between young people.
The NCS project sees local year 11 school-leavers engage in a summer-long project, aimed at creating community-wide volunteers. The project is made up of two week-long residential stays, encouraging participants to experience independent living, whilst gaining valuable life skills. During each stay, young people undertake outdoor adventure activities, such as raft building, gorge walking and paintball as a means of improving confidence and team-work skills.
After the two week-long residential trips, each participant will learn valuable work-specific skills and qualifications during a planning week at Home Park Stadium. It is throughout this time each participant has the chance to improve their CV by gaining accreditations which will help them to deliver a local community Social Action Project (SAP).
Following on from the action-packed residentials and educational week based at the ground, the young volunteers will carry out a 30 hours voluntary placement in their local community, using all the new skills and friendships they have made since the start of the project. Last year saw groups of young people redecorating local classrooms, delivering free football festivals for young children and serving up a three-course meal for local senior citizens.
We also saw 210 Plymouth youngsters graduate from the project, earning them the nationally recognized NCS certificate at a major graduation event. We are already looking ahead to the summer of 2016, so to guarantee your place on this once in a life time opportunity, act fast.
