PRIMARY Stars is a new Premier League project taking coaches from Argyle Community Trust into primary schools across the region, where we help upskill teachers to deliver sessions in physical education.
The aim is to improve PE teaching and enhance the delivery of coaching in all sports across England. Previously, we have worked with schools to provide PE lessons, allowing teachers to spend time on PPA (planning, preparation and assessment).
Primary Stars is all about teachers being present during the delivery of PE lessons, so they can benefit from our expertise in this area. For example, one of the initial tasks is to help teachers identify at least three students showing particular aptitude for a sport.
There are still some spaces for schools to sign up to Primary Stars in the summer term and the major emphasis is on schools that do not have a specialist PE teacher on site, enhancing sporting opportunities for children in Devon and Cornwall.
From the perspective of Argyle Community Trust, it is fantastic to have the opportunity to share our knowledge with new schools in the region and we also provide the option for a specialist assembly to help increase confidence in the teachers and children when it comes to sport.
Our ambition as a Trust over the duration of a six-year programme is to spread our reach across as many schools as possible, and hopefully remain part of their educational structure beyond the Primary Stars schedule.
