THERE is a wide range of employment opportunities available at Argyle Community Trust across Devon and Cornwall. A popular route for many young people is to embark on our traineeship programme – Fresh Start. We have coaches supporting this scheme from a number of different areas, including previous trainees who developed their knowledge as part of the 12 week programme and went on to successful careers.
Led by Engagement Officer, Morgan Barker in Plymouth and Social Inclusion Manager, Ryan Hooper in Cornwall, our ‘Fresh Start’ programme is for anybody aged 16-24, who is currently out of Education, Employment or Training (NEET) and it’s FREE! If looking to attend in Cornwall you can do so from the age of 15 years old.
Tailored to suit persons looking to work within a sporting industry whilst still working to develop skills suitable for all types of industry, we work with the English Football League Trust and Warwickshire College Group in Plymouth, and Careers South West with support from the European Social Fund in Cornwall to offer the most current and sought-after qualifications for young people who want to gain employment, further training or education in their chosen field.
Not sure which path to take, then why not consider a free Traineeship?
The traineeship gives young people the chance to gain a Certificate in Employability Skills Level 1, Sports Leaders UK Level 2, and Functional Skills in English and Maths as well as work experience at a professional football club.
The range of skills is diverse and specialised for becoming a successful coach; trainees will learn the basics of delivering coaching sessions, understanding of administrative requirements and the importance of creativity and networking for media relations and promotion. You’ll gain high quality work experience in range of potential careers such as business administration, coaching, hospitality, grounds maintenance, and match day and retail. All this will give you a valuable insight to working in the variety of opportunities in sport and leisure.
For any young person who is interested in sport and would love the chance to learn in the environment of a professional football club, the Fresh Start programme is perfect for you. Join us at Home Park in Plymouth or Carn Brea Leisure Centre in Redruth, to have your Fresh Start.

Cornwall Fresh Start
Argyle Community Trust’s Fresh Start programme is funded by Careers South West, through the European Social Fund, and has been running since January 2018. The aim of the programme is to help young people who face issues getting into or back into employment or education, or have become disengaged with education, overcome these barriers through regulated and non-regulated activities.
The traineeship gives young people the chance to gain a Certificate in Employability Skills Level 1, Sports Leaders UK Level 2, and Functional Skills Level 1 in English and Maths, as well as gaining work experience with a professional football club. It is hoped once these qualifications have been gained; the participant can gain employment or education opportunities with the help of PAFC.
