Year 11 students at Torpoint Community College have reached a major milestone in their leadership journey by completing their Level 2 Community Sports Leaderships assessments as part of the Premier League Inspires Programme.
By leveraging the power of football, the programme equips 11–18-year-olds within secondary schools with key life skills that they can take with them after education. These involve personal, social, and employability skills through a series of face-to-face mentoring sessions, workshops, and social actions. Students can gain confidence and leadership skills whilst getting support with employability skills and volunteer work.
Tallan Mitchell, Argyle Community Trust Community Programmes Lead, commented: “We’ve been pleased with the amount of growth we’ve seen in individuals at Torpoint and across the schools we support.
“It’s hard to juggle their GCSEs, they’ll obviously want to focus on their revision, but we’re there to support them in terms of growth with their confidence and going into their exams.
“Linking it with our Premier League Kicks programme, hopefully a few of the younger people will join our pathway on to our coaching programmes and we can develop them through our Post 16 Football and Education, and Higher Education programmes.”
Torpoint Community College student, Joseph, added: “I would recommend any year 10 student to do the course, it will benefit you so much in the future. You’ll get a good coaching course and a good pathway in life to be a coach or PE teacher, and benefits like working as a team, communication skills, and even making new friends.”
Argyle Community Trust began its Premier League Inspires delivery in 2022. Developed by the Premier League and professional football clubs in 2019 the programme has supported over 30,000 young people to date, with 45 Premier League and EFL clubs helping to develop these key personal skills and positive attitudes that the individuals can carry with them into adulthood.
