Argyle Community Trust honour Steve Aspinall as Premier League ‘Community Captain’

Argyle Community Trust are delighted to honour Steve Aspinall as the 2025 Community Captain as part of the Premier League’s ‘More Than A Game’ campaign.

The campaign has seen more than 100 clubs across the Premier League, EFL and National League celebrating the people at the heart of the club’s community programmes, with Steve recognised for his incredible contribution to the game, and society.

Steve has volunteered at the Trust for many years, dedicating hours of his time to our charity and community work.

Most proudly, Steve helps at Christmas delivering hampers to those in need but also takes part in our fundraising activities to raise vital funds for Project 35, our disability sessions, and veterans.

Steve is one of the first faces young visitors will be greeted by on a match day at Home Park. Steve volunteers at every home game hosting the matchday mascots, inspiring the next generation of the Green Army through stadium tours, and facilitating a magical day as young people from across the region meet their heroes and lead the team out at the Theatre of Greens.

Steve’s dedication to the Trust and Club, and his personality has made us all proud to be able to call him our friend.

On accepting his award, Steve said: “I am over the moon to be receiving the award. There are so many great people at the Trust, and there is so much great work that goes on. For me to be nominated for this means so much.”

“I don’t do it for awards, I do it to help people but it’s just a great thing to receive.

“Argyle Community Trust is much more than just football. We really do positively impact people’s lives across the region and I am proud to play my part.”

Argyle Community Trust Chief Operations Officer Jason Chapman added: “Steve is an absolute star, volunteering his own time to support the community. We are delighted to recognise him with this award.

“Steve is a very kind and generous man that gives a lot if his time for others. His work with young supporters and their families on a match day always gives a positive experience for those attending Home Park. Well done, Steve!”

Steve was presented with the award at Home Park by Argyle first-team players Conor Hazard, Nathanael Ogbeta, Jordan Houghton, Matty Sorinola, Darko Gyabi, Tymoteusz Puchacz, Ryan Hardy, Joe Edwards, Rami Al Hajj, Victor Palsson, Bali Mumba, and was cheered on by his mascots.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Premier League Stadium Fund and the Football Foundation. To date, the Premier League has invested more than £207 million into improving the grounds of English Football League, National League and Women’s Pyramid clubs via the Premier League Stadium Fund.

The League has also co-funded over £1.2 billion of investment along with The Football Association and Government into grassroots facilities through the Football Foundation. More than 74,000 grants have been distributed, including the construction or improvement of over 13,700 grass pitches and 1,200 3G pitches.
