When Oscar first joined YEP! (Youth Engagement Programme) in summer 2025, they were looking for more than just a job, they were looking for a future.
From the outset, Oscar showed motivation and a willingness to improve, and the YEP! team quickly began supporting them with guidance and direction to take practical steps towards their goal as they worked towards gaining an apprenticeship.
YEP! counsellors worked closely with Oscar on job applications, interview techniques, and refining their CV and letter of introduction. Through one-to-one guidance and tailored advice, Oscar developed the confidence to present themselves professionally and showcase their strengths. With continued encouragement from YEP! and partner organisations, EBP, and Argyle Community Trust, they grew in self-belief and readiness for employment.
Their hard work paid off. Oscar successfully secured an apprenticeship at the prestigious Headland Hotel in Cornwall and is now doing well in their new role.
Oscar also worked towards achieving their Functional Skills Level 2 Maths qualification. While not a requirement for their immediate role, gaining this qualification was an important investment in their future, strengthening their CV and supporting long-term career progression. Another significant milestone in their journey.
A proud Oscar reflected on their journey and was full of praise for the YEP! team: “Thank you for believing in me.”
Their mum shared: “The YEP! team really did go above and beyond for Oscar. Finally, Oscar can put maths on their CV which really completes their achievements so far.”
Oscar’s journey highlights what can be achieved when determination is matched with the right support network. By overcoming barriers and gaining vital qualifications, they have taken an important step toward a bright and independent future.
Everyone involved is incredibly proud of Oscar’s achievements and excited to see them continue to grow and thrive in their new role.
