THE Pilgrims host full day educational event, supported by Plymouth City Council
In the afternoon everyone came back together to see a screening of the SRtRC film and take part in a Question and Answer session about racism with a special panel. The panel included Argyle striker and England U-18 international, Matt Lecointe, former professional footballer and SRtRC patron Christian Roberts, Darin Halifax, Community Cohesion Coordinator at Plymouth City Council and Chris Haywood from Devon and Cornwall Police.
There were some excellent questions for the panel; the audience had put a lot of thought into what they wanted to ask. The top three questions of the day won prizes of SRtRC mini-footballs and T-Shirts, which Matt and Christian were happy to sign. The top questions on the day were:
- Why and when did you decide to stop racism? – Lucy, Laira Green School
- Have you ever come across someone who was receiving racism? – Owen, Old Priory School
- Which place has the most racist comments? – Caitlin, Laira Green School
All of the young people took home a SRtRC goody bag, including extra goodies from Plymouth Argyle Community Trust and Devon and Cornwall Police.
SRtRC would like to thank Plymouth Argyle FC and Community Trust for hosting the event and all their help in organising it. We’d also like to thank Plymouth City Council for their continued support for this work and Devon and Cornwall Police for their involvement. The campaign will look forward to working with all parties again.
