ARGYLE Community Trust were invited to the House of Commons last week for a parliamentary gathering to celebrate the national success of the + Sport Move and Learn Project.
At the event, a number of speakers, including MPs, Ferrero UK and Ireland CEO Pieraldo Oldano, Football League Trust Operations Director Mike Evans and Hiedi Sloan from Sky Blues in the Community, spoke about the successes and major developments of the project over the past year.
The + Sport Move and Learn project is a UK programme developed by Ferrero and the Football League Trust. It is an in-school programme, which is part of Ferrero’s global initiative to encourage healthy and active lifestyles for children across the world. The active platform has already reached 15 million children, and in 2016 the programme aims to target over 32,000 children across the UK and Ireland.
Argyle Community Trust Manager Mark Lovell attended the event with our Football Development Manager Jason Chapman and Football Development Officer Stewart Walbridge.
“The event was great at bringing all the leaders together to review the successes of this valuable project,” said Mark. “It’s helpful to meet other leaders from the project to talk about the tips and achievements they have gained from the programme in order for us to apply that to our local projects.”
All speakers united in thanking all leaders of the programme, as without their support and dedication to the new project, “it would not be where it is today” and “not have the opportunity to develop” and reach hundreds more children nationally.
Argyle Community Trust delivers the six-week project to primary schools throughout Plymouth and the surrounding areas. The six-week long programme is split into three sections, meaning each young person involved has two-week blocks of football, handball and dodgeball.
Each session lasts 90 minutes, which is split into two. The first half includes all the sport activities and the second half is classroom-based, where the individuals learn about nutrition, diet and hydration, as well as each young person receiving a qualification at the end of the programme.
