Foulston Park has been recognised on the national stage as part of a major award win for Plymouth City Council at the 2026 Local Government Chronicle (LGC) Awards in London.
‘Plymouth City Council – Together we do better – Foulston Park Project Plymouth’ was named winner of the ‘Place Shaping’ award, presented at a ceremony attended by 1,300 local authority professionals at Grosvenor House.
Sponsored by Norse Group, The Place Shaping award celebrates the vital role local government plays in creating more liveable, prosperous, and accessible places for their communities.
Foulston Park is transforming the former Brickfields site into a landmark destination for sport and community, delivered through a unique partnership between Plymouth City Council, Plymouth Argyle, Argyle Community Trust, Plymouth Albion, and Devonport Community Leisure Ltd.
At the heart of the development is The Hub at Foulston Park and the community facilities run by Argyle Community Trust offering:
- A modern gym and fitness classes
- Indoor sports facilities
- Soft play and esports provision
- A welcoming community café
- Sports and athletics facilities – Including grass and 3G pitches, and athletics track.
More than just sport, the site is designed to improve health and wellbeing, increase opportunity and skills, and build community pride in a disadvantaged area for generations to come, as well as becoming the home of the Plymouth Argyle Academy and Women’s teams, creating a clear pathway from community sport to professional development.
Foulston Park demonstrates what can be achieved through strong partnerships and genuine engagement with local communities to tackle inequality, support health, wellbeing, and the life chances of local people to create lasting positive change.
Dwain Morgan, Head of Business and Impact at Argyle Community Trust, said: “Foulston Park is a powerful example of what can be achieved when organisations come together with a shared vision. This award recognises the collective commitment to creating opportunities, improving wellbeing, and building a stronger, more connected community for the people of Plymouth.”
The LGC Awards are the premier celebration of excellence in local government, recognising the outstanding achievements of officers, councillors, and organisations across the sector.
