PLYMOUTH Argyle have been crowned champions of the South-West Youth Development League.

It is a tremendous achievement for the young Pilgrims, who also reached the semi-final of the cup competition and faced Liverpool.

The team operates under the stewardship of manager Lee Hodges, combining success on the pitch with their educational pursuit towards a Btec Level 3 Extended Diploma.

“The boys have done extremely well and it shows the success of our programme that the only side to beat us in the league this season was our reserve team,” said Hodges.

“We got over the line with a game to go in a competitive division that includes two sides affiliated to Chelsea, as well as Bournemouth, Exeter, Portsmouth and Cheltenham.

“Our reserves finished in mid-table and I see some genuine talent through both squads. Our aim is to develop them as players, both in terms of their technical ability and the mental approach to the game.”
