ARGYLE Community Trust is now recruiting for our highly successful Education Programme in conjunction with Okehampton Community College.
We will be holding an Open Evening on Thursday, January 14 from 4.30pm – 7.30pm, staged at Okehampton Community College.
We are looking for young players of school-leaving age with a passion to play football at a high level to take academic studies under the guidance of Plymouth Argyle, whilst at the same time honing their footballing talents.
The programme sees 16-18 years olds participate in a number of academic studies alongside a football scholarship run by Plymouth Argyle. The programme is designed to give people excellent academic qualifications that can take them into universities, overseas universities, employment and work places.
Okehampton Community College will provide the educational section, offering vocational courses, BTEC qualifications and A-Levels.
In addition to this, the programme provides talented and enthusiastic youngsters with the opportunity to train and play as a football scholar in tandem with their academic studies.
Previous scholars have progressed into the professional game, climbed the football pyramid and also gone overseas, whilst others have improved on their football ability and continue to play at a high standard in local football.
The programme does not prevent players from training or playing for their local teams. In fact, we encourage this and would like players to stay within local football. The programme would not affect your games or training schedule, as the course is an academic programme and runs during term-time.
For players who are currently studying in Year 11 and 12, the Open Evening will give them an insight into the course and opportunity to see course programme and content.
