The 12-month pilot project is funded by the Premier League, PLCF and Sport Relief to support girls and young women aged 11 to 18 in the city.
We are delighted to announce that Argyle Community Trust has been chosen as a delivery partner for the Premier League Changemakers programme which aims to support girls and young women to develop personal skills and positive attitudes towards leadership.
The focus of the project will be on leadership skills and qualities, improving engagement, gender equality and improved mental health, and will empower the female participants to complete a social action challenge of their choice.
The core themes of delivery include mental health, wellbeing, self-identity, confidence and self-esteem, empowerment and leadership, resilience, role models and allyship, educational attainment, career development, social action, community, leadership, and body image. Sessions are delivered through a mixture of training, youth voice, social action, sport and physical activity, workshops, and mentorship.
The weekly course will include special guest speakers and a range of learning methods and student delivery including guided discovery, presentations, practical work and classroom workshops.
In January, we kicked off with a fantastic new group of girls from Millbay Academy. Our first session with them focused on setting the tone of the course, building a sense that everyone can make a difference, recognising their strengths, experiences and attributes, as well as expressing gratitude towards others. With one participant saying: “I can already feel the positive difference this course is going to have on my personal development. It is improving my confidence and will better me as a person.”
Trust Inclusion Officer, Alice Young, adds: “We are delighted to be working with local secondary schools on this important project for females across the city. It will enable participants to lead positive change in their communities concerning gender equality and mental health through a UNITAR accredited leadership project and social action.”
The 12-month pilot project is jointly funded by the Premier League, Premier League Charitable Fund, United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and Sport Relief and has been integrated with the Trust’s already hugely successful PL Kicks delivery.
