Argyle Community Trust Time2Move Holiday Programme is LIVE

Families across Cornwall can now book activities for children and young people to enjoy this summer as the Time2Move Holiday Programme goes live.

ACT are running events for young people aged between 5 and 15 at Looe Primary Academy, Carn Brea Leisure Centre and Launceston College across August. Activities will include football, multi-sports, SAQ, team building games, dodgeball, handball and lots more! Contingency is in place in case of wet weather to ensure the fun continues.

The £1.6million project aims to provide access to out out-of-school clubs with the aim of supporting families on low incomes who are more likely to experience ‘unhealthy holidays’ in terms of nutrition and physical health.

Tim Marrion, from Active Cornwall, said, “We are pleased to announce that the website to book sessions is now live. There are dozens of providers listed, from football to dance and beach fun to tree climbing – as well as everything in between.

“The aim is to offer something for every child to enjoy, whatever their interests, wherever they live in Cornwall.”

Argyle Community Trust Operations Manager Jason Chapman ads, “We’re thrilled to be part of this programme and will be running activities throughout August.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming dozens of children and young people to Looe, Launceston and Carn Brea for a host of exciting sports and activities at these fantastic facilities with our trained and experienced staff.”

Active Cornwall, which is running the programme, has spent the spring recruiting providers from across the county to put on a range of activities.

The £1,623,030 million ring fenced by the Department of Education for the county, also aims to tackle social isolation.

Children and young people eligible for Free School Meals are currently being sent a unique code by their school to apply when booking sessions. This waves the fee for the activity.

Those not receiving Free School Meals are still welcome and encouraged to join the sessions. At the time of booking there will be a small fee for their place.

School holidays can have particular challenges for some families because of increased costs such as food, childcare and reduced incomes.

Tim added: “EVERY child booked on to one of our sessions will be offered a free meal as part of their day out.”

Active Cornwall is working with Cornwall Council and the Department for Education to address the inequalities faced in Cornwall.

As a third of all children in the county are classed as inactive, the Time2Move Holiday Programme hopes to address this and improve both physical and mental wellbeing.
