Club Captain and fans favourite Gary Sawyer is this seasons FIT FANS Ambassador for Argyle Community Trust’s successful wellbeing programme.
The FIT Pilgrims are kicking off their second season with the guidance and support of Argyle Community Trust and the Football Club by tackling their weight getting fitter and healthier through a FREE 12-week healthier lifestyles programme.
The programme, which is run by over 30 EFL Clubs and was launched in January (2020) is supported by over £2.25 million of National Lottery Funding from Sport England and its aim is to use the magnetism of football to tackle obesity levels in over 10,000 fans across the UK.
The 35-year-old is proud to support the programme and when able, get involved is some of the sessions and be able to offer advice and motivation along the way.
Gary stated he ‘enjoys being involved with Community projects and regards it as a massive honour to be asked to be an Ambassador of a project like FIT FANS where he can use his own personal experiences to help guide and influence the participants.’
Health and Disability Officer, Emma Potter added ‘we are delighted to have Gary as our Ambassador, he is a popular with our FANS and will have a huge influence on our participants, it’s really important that those that enrol on our programmes have someone that they can relate to, as well as have a role model, so to have Gary on board with us, where he can help inspire and motivate is an added to bonus.’
