Football fans across towns and cities in England and Wales will continue to receive help and information to aid their understanding of their energy use and spend, as the EFL and Smart Energy GB agree a new one-year partnership.
Smart Energy GB and the EFL’s charitable arm, EFL in the Community first teamed up in 2022, utilising the reach of EFL Clubs and Club charities up and down the country to show supporters how smart meters can help by giving them greater visibility of their energy use and more control over their bills.
In the last two gears, Smart Energy GB has engaged almost 740,000 people through Club charity venues, community programmes and match days.
Two-thirds of all household energy meters are now smart meters, meaning that millions of people across Britain are benefitting from accurate bills and being able to see how energy they use in near-real time.
As in previous years, Smart Energy GB will engage fans at major EFL Finals at Wembley Stadium and at a range of community programmes up and down the country.
By harnessing the power of football and trusted voices within the game, our partnership will continue to drive positive change and encourage smart meter adoption across England and Wales throughout 2025.
EFL Chief Commercial Officer, Ben Wright said: “We look forward to continuing the work between the EFL, EFL in the Community and the network of 72 Clubs and Club charities to reach people in low-income areas and those who may find digital technology more challenging.
“The partnership between the EFL and Smart Energy GB is part of the wider work being done by the League, EFL in the Community and our Clubs to make changes across the game in environmental sustainability.”
Smart Energy GB Deputy Director of Specialist Audiences, Phillippa Brown said: “The EFL, the Clubs and their charitable arms play a vital role in creating real engagement with local communities, reaching people where they feel most connected—through their football clubs. We’re very excited to continue working closely with them in 2025.
“By harnessing the power of trusted voices within the game, we hope this partnership will help more vulnerable households across England and Wales feel the financial and environmental benefits of smart meters.”
