FINE performances failed to get the right reward for Argyle’s education squads in the National Youth League this week.
Our Cornwall team made the gruelling trip to face league leaders Norwich City and turned in a terrific display against a very good team, containing some Academy players from the Canaries.
Coach Jamie Day was naturally very proud of his team in a narrow 2-1 defeat and made special mention for Callum Cartwright, who gave a man of the match showing.
There was similar heartbreak for the Argyle A side based at Home Park, as we went down to a controversial 3-2 at high-flying Tottenham Hotspur.
After going behind on two minutes, Liam Newell levelled with a powerful header but we conceded again before half-time. Joe Lewis looked to have secured an impressive draw when he equalised in the second period but Tottenham snatched victory with a late goal, despite the assistant referee flagging for offside.
There was some disappointment for the Argyle SC squad, also based at Home Park, as they slipped to a 6-0 loss at Wycombe Wanderers.
