THE University of St Mark and St John (Marjon) and Plymouth Argyle Football Club have combined for a new football degree: BA (Hons) FOOTBALL DEVELOPMENT & COACHING. For detailed information visit www.marjon.ac.uk/courses/football-degree/
The BA (Hons) FOOTBALL DEVELOPMENT & COACHING programme principal aims are to:
- Critically explore the football industry specifically considering issues related to football development and coaching in both academic and applied contexts.
- Provide vocational experiences with mentoring support to ensure students can plan, deliver and evaluate high quality coaching sessions.
- Develop vocational skills through practical delivery and work-based environments to develop a highly skilled football workforce.
- Support the wider role of football within local communities through football development initiatives in partnership with Football League clubs.
We believe this degree provides a fantastic opportunity for those students currently involved in sports coaching and development, or pursuing A’ Levels or BTEC programmes at your college. We are very keen to promote this to both male and female footballers. Argyle’s Community Trust can arrange to visit your College to conduct a presentation to your students who have a passion for football. We can leave posters and flyers to promote the course.
This is a unique course that brings together sports academics from the University of St Mark and St John and professional football development officers and coaches from Plymouth Argyle’s Community Trust and Devon FA. Students get the opportunity to apply theoretical principles to practical activities through coaching and work placements and gain coaching awards along the way. We focus on student employability so students can seek employment within the global football industry.
