FOLLOWING last week’s FA Cup win over Basingstoke, Argyle ladies turn their attention to the defence of the Devon Senior Cup with a visit to Alphington.

The net result was Argyle receiving £600 for winning their fourth qualifying round tie as well as being able to pocket a further £800 for receiving a first round bye. Argyle won't know their next opponents until after the first round takes place on 4th December with a prize of £900 on offer for the winners of round two.

The Lady Pilgrims, who are County cup champions following their victory over Marine Academy Plymouth last season have a score to settle, as they were surprisingly dumped out of the competition 1-0 by Alphington in the 2014/15 season.

Manager Dave Leonard has been delighted with the response his charges have shown on the training pitch by saying: “We had 32 girls at the training session, I think that is the most we have ever had. Their attitude and application is fantastic, they are absolutely buzzing and I have nothing but admiration for them.

“We are looking forward to this cup tie as it will help take our mind off the FA Cup and or Premier League South Western Division campaign.

“It was imperative that we had a reserve team. We needed a natural progression from our youth players through to the first team. We had over 100 players from our under 10s, 12s, 14s and 16s along with our first and second team players at training, that augers well for the future.”

Leonard welcomes back Mollie Taylor this weekend, who has returned from having an operation and revealed that he has a fully-fit squad to choose from. Argyle then have a two-week break before they face arguably their toughest match of the season when they travel to Chichester City, the only team to have beaten them this season.

Argyle’s second string had their Devon League match at the University of Exeter called off due to bad weather last Sunday but should have no problems this Sunday as they receive Lakeside Athletic at Marjon with a 2:30pm kick off – looking to complete the double.
