Brook-GreenTHE Premier League for Sport (PL4 Sport) programme works in partnership with Argyle Community Trust and offers a multi-skill session every week, which teaches young people at the Brook Green Centre for Learning, fundamental sport and athletic skills and co-ordination.

At the unique Brook Green Centre for Learning, they work with young people aged 11-16, who have moderate learning difficulties and associated behavioural, social and emotional difficulties. Staff, parents and students work harmoniously to produce a varied curriculum of vocational learning and caring in an enhanced environment to support the young individuals.

Argyle Community Trust runs six sports within their PL4 Sport programme: athletics, badminton, boxing, hockey, netball, table tennis. The partnership aims to deliver Olympic Sports to young people aged between 12-25 years and engages over 19,000 young people. Through PL4 Sport, more than 2,500 qualifications have already been gained.

Argyle’s very own Carl McHugh visited the young individuals at Brook Green Centre last week in the Trust’s weekly multi-skill athletic session. McHugh was superb in encouraging the children to get involved and led an energetic warm-up to boost their motivation. The young people were inspired to be learning with a football player and everybody thoroughly enjoyed the session.

Carl McHugh said: “It was great to spend time with these kids, they bring so much energy to the sport and are so enthusiastic to learn.”

“Carl’s presence today really demonstrates what a powerful project PL4 Sport can be,” added Social Inclusion Manager Dwain Morgan. “Some of these participants may never have had the opportunity to watch an Argyle game, let alone meet one of our top players. The kids deserved this opportunity and it’s great that Carl can come to celebrate their hard work and success.”
