THE Football Scholarship programme with Argyle Community Trust offers a realistic route to employment within the sport industry and a fine example of what can happen is the story of aspiring coach Matt Quick.
After completing his GCSE’s, Matt joined the Futsal Scholarship programme with Redruth School and Argyle Community Trust and has now progressed to a degree at the University of St Mark and St John (Marjon).
He has clearly made a terrific impression with the hierarchy at Home Park and works as a community coach for the Trust, developing the next generation of football talent.
“I am now a coach with Argyle Community Trust and currently undertaking a degree at Marjon in Football Development and Coaching,” said Matt.
“I am goalkeeping coach for the Advanced Development Centre Girls at under-16 level and also around schools in the local area, so the programme has led me to a genuine career in sport.
“When I completed my GCSE’s, I knew I wanted to pursue football and it was fantastic to be involved with a professional club, ending up with a BTEC qualification and the natural progression from the scholarship was to join a course at Marjon.
“I would highly recommend the course to any enthusiastic footballer looking to embark on a career in sport. My programme was based at Carn Brea Leisure Centre and I’m still playing Futsal for England Under-21s.”
