We are delighted to welcome our friends from Devon firm SW Law & Finance to this afternoon’s final home Sky Bet League One game of the season against Burton, on what has the potential to be a memorable afternoon.
SW Law & Finance have shown incredible support and generosity to the community and charitable work of the Trust by supporting numerous initiatives over the past year, and we wanted to thank them by inviting them to a special hospitality visit to Home Park.
Director Rob Cowsill and the team have supported us since being introduced to the charity just over a year ago. Rob expressed how impressed he and the team were by the diversity and quality of community outreach work delivered to vulnerable members of our community. When Rob heard about our inaugural Charity Golf Day last summer, he jumped at the opportunity to become headline sponsor with funds going to our disability provision. SW Law & Finance also entered a team, but we won’t talk about that…The day raised over £10,000 which was used to provide powerchairs for our new powerchair football sessions, helping remove barriers to participation for young people in our city. Rob attended one of these sessions to see how his vital support can make a huge difference to people’s lives in the community.
In the summer, SW Law & Finance also supported our National Citizen Service (NCS) delivery. NCS offers a range of different types of experiences which are designed to help young people grow their strengths, boost their confidence, learn new skills, build their resilience, and make new friends. Rob made multiple visits to young people in Bideford to give inspirational and educational talks on employability, CV writing, and life skills.
Rob’s generosity extended to donating his NCS fee to Project 35, our social impact project in partnership with Ginsters aimed at tackling poverty in the region. This money helped fund a breakfast club, supporting young people on our alternative provision who live in areas of extreme deprivation, aimed at re-engaging them with education. This support ensured each young person ate a healthy breakfast each morning before taking part in their mentoring and education sessions.
Further support was provided in October with prizes gifted for our Halloween trick-or-treat trail in Central Park. Over 100 local children took part, mostly in spooky fancy dress, and £150 was raised for Project 35, and 50 tins of long-life food donated which were distributed to the local foodbank network.
At Christmas SW Law & Finance donated £350 to our Christmas Hamper Appeal, in partnership with Babcock, which paid for festive Christmas Puddings. Hampers were distributed to 200 local families living in poverty.
The incredible support didn’t stop at monetary donations. Rob and the team have also pledged 35 hours for Pledge 35 for Project 35, volunteering vital time to fill the staffing shortfall in the food charity network.
Rob and the team dusted off their football boots in February to take part in a charity 5-a-side tournament aimed at raising money to support ex-forces veterans and their families through our Veterans Café, and just this month Rob held a raffle at the Ivybridge Flete Races, raising a further £324 for Project 35.
