ARGYLE youngster Ben Musselwhite has reached the south-west trial stage for a place in the English Schools Football Association squad.
Ben is part of the Football Education programme at Home Park and the youngster has performed superbly in his favoured central midfield role to now represent the south-west of England against a south-east team at Thatcham later this month.
Argyle coach Lee Hodges initially recommended Ben and two of his team-mates for the first trial at Newton Abbot, which he passed, and moved to the regional trials in Bristol. Ben has now advanced to the third stage of a rigorous process.
“I am proud to be representing the south-west and the trial experience was fantastic for me,” said Ben. “The standard of player was amazing at times and great for me to be included.
“We play against the south-east team on November 19 and it has all come about as part of my involvement with the Argyle education programme. I’m really enjoying the course and playing regular football.”
Argyle coach Matt Scholes added: “Ben has done really well with the opportunity. He has performed in the league games for us and it’s great for our programme to receive this type of recognition.
“I know people here within the club are aware of Ben and that is part of what our programme is all about, giving young players the chance to progress as footballers and academically.”
