ARGYLE had to recover from a 2-1 deficit before winning this second match of the season and that was thanks to a second-half hat-trick from striker Natasha Knapman.
The Pilgrims got off to a great start when in the ninth minute a superb Katie Middleton through ball found the pacey Ezme Wells who raced clear to send in a low cross which the onrushing Dani Salt bundled into the net. Ten minutes later Argyle had to rely on goalkeeper Michaela Phillips who made a stunning save to deny Cheltenham Town an equalizing goal.
Unfortunately, Argyle's defence was all at sea when they failed to deal with a free-kick which allowed Louise Sensrome to head home. A dubious looking offside then left striker Ria Saleh beating the advancing Phillips to give Cheltenham the lead. Argyle forced themselves back into the game and a Kayleigh Brown corner was met by Middleton, whose looping header found the top corner of the net.
Argyle got the perfect start to the second half when, within a minute of the restart, a corner was flicked on by Ebony Dover to Knapman who headed in virtually on the goal line. Two minutes later, and the predatory Knapman struck again by heading in a Brown corner.
Argyle were now in total control of the match and it came as no surprise for Knapman to complete her hat trick. Ten minutes from time, the alert striker anticipated a back pass to race on to the ball and poke it past the onrushing goalkeeper to seal the victory.
Manager Dave Leonard said: "It was a very solid second half performance after a very difficult first half. We didn't play as I wanted us to play but thankfully we turned it around after the break. I was very pleased for Natasha it was nice for her to get off the mark with a hat trick. We now face the big challenge on Thursday when we meet Devon rivals Exeter City."
