Friary Mill pledge support for local people through Argyle charity partnership

Argyle Community Trust are delighted to announce a special charity partnership with Argyle sponsor and official pasty supplier Friary Mill.

The Plymouth craft bakery have chosen the Trust, the official charity of Plymouth Argyle, as their charity partner of the year. This commits further support to the community from the bakers, with many local charities already supported with fundraising efforts – which extends to donating unsold products to Help for the Homeless Plymouth.

The partnership will see all 14 local stores provide an Argyle Community Trust collection tin, and in-store and digital support will be provided to help promote the Trust’s community outreach work, showcasing programmes and services to support health, wellbeing, employment, and education of local people.

A further exciting development has seen the bakery produce a Plymouth Argyle doughnut. Decorated in green and white, and adorning the famous crest, the specially commissioned product will sell at all 14 retail sites and six retail vans with 10p of every sale being donated to the Trust.

Dwain Morgan, Trust Head of Business and Impact, said: “I can say, with authority, that the doughnut is superb! We would encourage the Green Army to purchase this Argyle inspired treat during their next visit to a Friary Mill store, or for a loved one who is Argyle mad, to help us raise vital funds for our charity.”

Money raised will go to support plans to expand the Trust’s Children Affected by Parental Imprisonment (CAPI) programme into Plymouth. The programme, currently the first of its kind in the south west, supports children and young people aged 0-18 in Cornwall who have a parent in prison with tailored one-to-one support.

Commenting on the announcement, Dwain continued: “On behalf of the Trust, I would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Friary Mill. We are delighted to have been chosen as the charity of the year for such an important local brand.

“Friary Mill and its staff share many of our important values, and a pride in helping our Plymouth communities.

“The support they are providing will help us launch ACTing With Children in Plymouth – a programme we already run successfully across Cornwall.”

Friary Mill was founded in Plymouth in 1988 with a vision to provide the finest quality, handmade baked goods, at the best possible value to its customers, with the warmest and friendliest service. These founding principles still represent what Friary Mill stands for today across their Plymouth and Ivybridge stores.

Steve Goswell, CEO at Friary Mill, said: “We are delighted to partner with Argyle Community Trust and to have the opportunity to raise as much money as possible, supporting important local projects that directly benefit the communities in which we all live and serve.”
