In February 2025, Leo took a decisive step toward his future by enrolling in an employability programme dedicated to supporting individuals Not in Education, Employment, or Training (NEET) across Plymouth. Funded by Plymouth City Council and the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, this collaborative initiative was delivered by Argyle Community Trust in partnership with City College Plymouth’s Skills Builder project.
Referred through the Plymouth Job Centre, Leo joined the programme with a clear goal: return to work doing something he loved. As a massive football fan, his dream was to break into the sports industry. From day one, Leo’s enthusiasm and determination stood out. He channelled this energy into his studies, securing his Level 1 Award in Behaviours, Attitude, and Attributes.
Eager to get his foot in the door, Leo initially applied for a part-time cleaning role at the newly opened Hub at Foulston Park. However, during the interview, the facilities team saw far more than an applicant – they saw raw potential. Recognising his intense drive, the Trust offered Leo a full Facilities Apprenticeship instead. Today, he is gaining vital, hands-on experience in the day-to-day operations of a bustling sports hub.
Leo shared: “My next goal is to build my knowledge of working in a sports hub, with the aim of eventually completing my Personal Trainer Instructor course. I am very grateful for all the support so far and would not be here today without the employability course I started in February 2025.”
