At Argyle Community Trust, we are looking for an individual who has the passion, enthusiasm and commitment to increase participation in grassroots sport through this new and exciting project. The right person will be able to generate and maintain strong relationships with local people, communities, and organisations in order to recruit participants onto the Active Through Football programme. They must have empathy and an awareness of the barriers to participation and wider societal issues that prevent people from engaging in sport. The project will require the post holder to support hard-to-reach community members and be able to inspire them to re-engage with sport and physical exercise, as well as wider health and lifestyle workshops.
As part of the Health and Well-being team at Argyle Community Trust, the post holder will be responsible for supporting the Project Manager in planning and implementing the Active Through Football project.
The candidate must have good, in-depth knowledge of health, well-being and behaviour change processes. Experience of delivering health, wellbeing, and exercise interventions, in a wide range of community setting for adults is essential. Ideally, the candidate will have good insight into how football development and current sport for development work is supporting improved health and well-being.
We would also expect the candidate to have experience in working one-to-one with individuals, as well as in small groups, to motivate and educate participants in the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. An awareness of how Active Through Football is aligned to wider sport/community development and public health objectives is also expected. The successful candidate would also have experience of mentoring individuals, supporting them in setting lifestyle/exercise improvement plans and offering pastoral support to participants as part of their wider development. A key element for the post is on-going community engagement and interaction with targeted communities. Therefore, the post holder must be able to reach out and develop relationships within local people and encourage those currently not engaged in sport provisions within their local areas to take part.

Deliver Argyle Community Trust’s Active Through Football programme. This is to include:
• Support the Project Manager in developing learning resources for informal health, well-being, and diet ‘classroom-based’ sessions that educate participants about positive lifestyles.
• Delivery of a high-quality sport, physical activity and learning programme that has been outlined in the project’s delivery plan. This includes associated tasks including appropriate risk assessing and session planning duties.
• Delivery of Active Through Football sessions in line with the programme’s delivery plan ensuring consistency and quality across the programme.
• Manage personal relationships with participants and offer pastoral support to all participants requiring additional health and well-being advice.
• Deliver ad-hoc, bespoke sport and exercise sessions to participants who are struggling to engage with the mainstream project.
• Create personal development/health plans for each participant, including goal setting and review processes.
• Work within each locality one day per week and capture additional insight that supports the shaping of future project plans.
• Generate and maintain positive relationships with local people across 4 targeted Plymouth communities.
• Work closely with Public Health, County Sport Partnership, County FA, and Local Authorities to ensure the programme remains planned and delivered in line with city-wide strategies and policies.
• Promote safe practices outlined in Trust policies and procedures including Safeguarding and Health & Safety and ensure professional standards are adhered to across all areas of delivery.
• Work with the Health and Well-Being team to signpost project participants to wider opportunities and sustainable exit routes Adhere to the Health & Safety and Safeguarding procedures in your designated sessions and liaise with Designated Safeguarding Officer when appropriate.
• Retain people in sport and physical activity by providing guidance on progression, exit routes and further sporting and leisure opportunities based on interest. This could include local volunteering or employment opportunities, walking/veteran football, health classes or more targeted interventions.
• Support participants in accessing wider community services, including but not limited to Job
Centre Plus, Social Prescribing services, additional support services and local sport opportunities
• Work to agreed targets set in project plans by CEO and ATF Project Manager.
• Continually monitor and evaluate all sessions, activities and programmes and adapt delivery accordingly. Capture all required data and support the Monitoring and Evaluation processes requested by organisation and national funders. All M&E is to be fed into the Impact Team as instructed by Remit Manager.
• Work with MarComms Team to support them in capturing media and case studies Identify relevant participants and refer them into a local volunteer’s programme based on their session engagement.
• Organise hyper-local community celebration and recruitment events in partnership with local people.
• Plan and facilitate meetings with new partners who have been identified as adding value to the programme.
• Deliver hyper-local steering group meetings/forums with prominent local people and organisations in each of the 4 targeted localities. Support with the development of a retention/incentives package that will be made available to participants to encourage their sustained engagement over the 5-year period. This will be shaped by the on-going capture of local insight.
• Engage and inspire project participants to make positive lifestyle behaviour changes. More specifically, engage and support those who have been identified within the Plymouth Plan as partaking in negative lifestyle choices.
• Undertake regular community visits to Active Through Football partners and identify best-practice. This includes observing their recruitment and celebration events, as well as their wider community-development work in practice.
• Liaise with internal and external partners throughout the project, including national funders.
• Develop a range of hyper-local networks and resident forum groups, ensuring that the project remains a collaborative approach between local people and project.
• Generate and maintain positive relationships with local partners, organisations, and stakeholders across 4 targeted Plymouth communities.
• Attend all national training events/meetings, as well as city-wide events that add value to localised project plan/outcomes.
• Support partner organisations to deliver hyper-local community events and services.
• Liaise with local stakeholders to ensure consistent exposure of ATF at community level.
• Support and deliver on other ACT practical sessions, these could include ad-hoc Higher Education lectures or other ACT Health Intervention programmes.
• Work closely with other ACT staff in sharing good practice, ideas and attend and contribute to regular Trust meetings. Support with the delivery of CPD events to wider-Trust staff based on project learnings.
• Identify potential local funding opportunities or in-kind partnership relationships that will improve the ATF offering. Significant funding opportunities identified through local networking should be referred to ATF Project Manager and Business Development Manager.
• Ensure General Data Protection Regulations and IT Policies are adhered to.
• Organise and support Special Events to assist in the promotion of the Trust’s activities, this may include occasional match day hosting of strategic partners on a corporate table.
• Complete office and administrative duties when required.
