NATIONAL PLAYGROUND FOOTBALL DAY

National Playground EventSCHOOLCHILDREN in Plymouth today took part in the inaugural National Playground Football Day.

Credit card company and League Cup sponsor Capital One, established the day in the calendar to celebrate the long-standing British tradition of playground football.

Children at Sir John Hunt Community Sports College were one of the schools who took part in a lunchtime kick about.

Evoking memories of ‘next goal wins’ and ‘Wembley doubles’ for a generation who remembered their playground glory days, the day aims to encourage the next generation of schoolchildren to get outside for a lunchtime kick-about whilst building upon the academic and social benefits that comes with regular exercise.

Jason Carr, head of sponsorship at Capital One, said: “We believe that the right support can make a difference in people’s lives. Playground football is more than just a kick-about at break time, it is a game that embraces and encourages the freedom of play, giving children the opportunity to socialise, meet new friends and keep physically active.”
