ARGYLE Community Trust has entered a team in the Table Tennis England National Premier League 4 Sport event.
On Saturday, March 12, 2016 at the Young People’s Lighthouse Centre in Birmingham, young table tennis prospects will get the Premier League star treatment when they represent top football clubs at a national competition.
A total of 16 clubs will be competing at the Premier League 4 Sport tournament in Birmingham this weekend.
Young people aged between 14-18 years will play in a new table tennis format of timed team matches. The aim of the day is for young people to have fun, compete, meet some of the top table tennis players this country has produced and get some coaching tips on how they can improve and enjoy the sport even more!
England Leopards star Kelly Sibley, fresh from competing at the World Team Championships, and 11-time national champion Desmond Douglas will be coaching the youngsters and playing in exhibition matches.
We will also have the Premier League trophy present for young people to get the opportunity to have a photo with the illustrious prize!
All the students participating on the day will enjoy a fantastic day wearing the Premier League club kit of their heroes and all players will leave with a goody bag full of Premier League and Table Tennis England goodies to remember the day.
It is the first national table tennis tournament under the scheme since 2009 and we hope to see around 80 young people attending and enjoying the celebration of the partnership work Table Tennis England, The Premier League and Sport England have to engage thousands of young people in table tennis every year since the 4 Sport programme was established.
This event will be held at the Lighthouse, Young People’s Centre in Birmingham, which is a fantastic venue.
The clubs taking part are: Group A – Wigan, Stoke, Aston Villa, Plymouth Argyle, Chelsea, Sunderland, Arsenal, Manchester United; Group B – Tottenham, Newcastle, Blackburn, West Brom, Hull, Derby, Southampton, Swansea.
