Train & play like a pro, & study towards nationally-recognised qualifications in Plymouth, Devon & Cornwall

Are you aged between 16 and 18? Do you want a higher education course that allows you to train and play like a pro while gaining nationally-recognised academic qualifications?

We are delighted to offer male and female footballers, interested in the September 2022 programme, the opportunity to attend our open evenings and open training sessions to discover more about life as a Plymouth Argyle Post 16 Education student.

We have a long and proud history of education in the South-West, with the first Post 18 programme starting at the Theatre of Greens in Plymouth in 2010. Since then we have expanded our programme to cover the region. First setting up at the state-of-the-art facilities at Carn Brea Leisure Centre in Pool, Cornwall, and this year setting up an exciting new partnership with the Devon FA at the home of football in Devon at Coach Road, Newton Abbot.

Studying with Argyle is truly unique, with unrivalled experiences and opportunities which are the envy of other education providers.

The setting and facilities our students learn, train and play in are second to none. Plymouth students’ study at Home Park Stadium, home of Plymouth Argyle Football Club, and train and play their home games on the floodlit 3G pitch at Manadon Sports & Community Hub.

Plymouth Education Manager, Lee Britchford, adds, “We prepare our students not only for life in football but life after it. The Trust has found education and sport a perfect combination, enabling students to work academically towards nationally-recognised qualifications and gain great insight into working in the sports industry.”

Cornwall students have access to the wonderful facilities at Carn Berea Laisure Centre. State-of-the-art 3G pitch, running track, fully equipped aerobic and weights gym and swimming pool.

Mike Foley, Cornwall Manager, adds, “There are numerous pathways and opportunities for our students made possible by the strong links the Trust have within sport and education. Some go on to university, others seek employment or apprenticeships, and some go on to start their playing careers in football, following one of the many player pathways.”

Devon students get to study and play at the bespoke headquarters of the Devon FA, including its own full-size and floodlit 3G pitch.

Argyle Community Trust Head of Education & Employment, Gareth Harries adds, “We are delighted to be partnering with Devon FA and City College Plymouth.

Studying at a facility that is not based at a school or college has proven to be a major factor in the success of our Plymouth and Cornwall programmes. We can’t wait to meet all of you at our open events!”

Students study towards a BTEC in Sport, equivalent to 3 A-Levels, alongside a full-time football training and games programme. Students are supported by PGCE and QTLS qualified Argyle staff and benefit from coaching from UEFA qualified coaches. In Plymouth, students are also coached and mentored by ex-professional footballers Lee Hodges and Gary Sawyer with Jamie Day working with the students in Cornwall with the additional benefit of links to a professional football club.

Students from Cornwall recently had the honour of visiting Home Park Stadium where they watched the men’s first team train at Harpers Park, followed by a Q&A with first-team coaches, and a tour of the stadium with ex-Argyle legend and current club ambassador Gary Sawyer.

Our programmes are run in partnership with our friends at Devon FA, Carn Brea Leisure Centre, Home Park Stadium, City College Plymouth, Falmouth College and Cornwall College.
