Argyle and Raiders collaborate for free basketball through PL Kicks

The Argyle Community Trust is delighted to have teamed up with professional basketball team the Plymouth Raiders to deliver free basketball sessions for young people, further diversifying the Trusts’ already extensive provision.

The sessions are targeted at children between 8 and 16 years and aim to engage the community in a new sport and increase physical activity and participation. Following the difficulties of lockdown, it will also provide the perfect social opportunity for young people across Plymouth to interact and connect with others.

The project is developed in partnership with the Youth Service and Devon & Cornwall Police and funded through the amazing Premier League Kicks programme, the flagship community programme that has enabled the Trust to provided support for some of the most high-need areas in Plymouth for over a decade. Local housing association Live West have given their support by way of gaining interest in the sessions within the community.

Plymouth Raiders Community Coach Ben Fox said, “We are super excited to be working with the Argyle Community Trust. We do a lot of work in the community offering basketball sessions for young people. We feel lucky to be involved.”

Argyle Community Trust Community Engagement Manager Dan Hart adds, “We are always striving to diversify what we do here at the Trust. What better way than to be working with a fellow professional sports team in the city. We are pleased to be providing young people in the community with the opportunity of participating in this fantastic sport.”

Alice Young, part of the Community Engagement Team at the Trust adds, “We are really excited with the partnership and to be offering basketball as part of our provision. It is great to have teamed up with our friends at Plymouth Raiders and we very much look forward to working with them.”

The sessions are held every Wednesday at Fox Field Close Efford from 6 pm to 7pm (age 8 to 12) and 7pm to 8 pm (age 12 to 16). Participants are welcome to turn up on the day and just get involved!
