ARGYLE LADIES RESERVES 7-2 TAVISTOCK

ARGYLE'S second string were made to work hard for this victory to avenge their 2-1 defeat earlier in the season. On a bitterly cold afternoon, Argyle had to draft in outfield player Ashleigh Beeney in goal due to an injury sustained during the warm up to Sarah Prior.

The Pilgrims started on the front foot and after a couple of close shaves they took the lead through predatory striker Gabi Alphous who ran on to a through ball to produce a clinical finish past goalkeeper Zoe Stock. A minute later it became 2-0 when an inswinging Katelyn McCane corner flew straight into the net under the crossbar.

Argyle had to wait until the 25th minute to increase their lead through Catherine Adams. Tavistock fought back and reduced the arrears when former Pilgrim Becky McMullin scored with a long range effort. Argyle continued to press and increased their lead through a McCane drive which was diverted into the net past the despairing dive of Stock. Stock then made a brave save at the feet of Ezme Wells.

The players then had to endure a huge hailstorm which lasted until the half time break. Thankfully, the weather cleared in the second half and within four minutes of the restart, after a Wells effort had been blocked, Alphous pounced to score. Eight minutes later the best move of the match saw a great crossfield ball from Alphous out to McCane which ended with her low cross being slammed into the net by Wells.

Once again, Tavistock hit back with the lively McMullin at the forefront of their attacks and a quick break ended with substitute Becky Gordon knocking in Tavy's second goal. Alphous completed her productive afternoon when she ran on to a superb through ball from Kelsey Miller to complete the scoring with her hat-trick goal.
