Charity Partners Dash of Silver & Dartmoor Zoo cheer on the Greens!

We are delighted to welcome some special guests to the Pilgrims’ Sky Bet League One fixture against MK Dons this afternoon. Inaugural charity partners for the 2021/22 campaign Dash of Silver and Dartmoor Zoological Society will be part of the sell-out crowd to cheer on the Greens in a game that will hopefully see Argyle reach the play-offs.

Dartmoor Zoo is a household name in Devon and Cornwall. The zoo, located in Sparkwell on the south-west edge of Dartmoor, has entertained and educated our community and visiting tourists since re-opening in 2007. In 2014, the Mee family generously transferred the ownership and governance of Dartmoor Zoological Park to Dartmoor Zoological Society, a charity created especially for the purpose of running the zoo.

The charity is responsible for the care of the animal collection as well as conservation, breeding and research projects with a clear vision for ‘helping people, helping wildlife.’ The Wellness Through Nature and educational programmes support adults and children to improve their mental and emotional health and physical wellbeing by inspiring and empowering them to be more connected with the natural world.

Dash of Silver is a Plymouth-based male cancer charity that started following the founder’s own diagnosis of testicular cancer. The charity strives to create awareness for male cancer, whilst supporting male cancer patients throughout their battle.

The special partnership has seen the club, trust and charities collaborate on numerous initiatives across the season including vital fundraising and awareness work to help them achieve their charitable aims. Events have included a fun day at Dartmoor Zoo which saw Argyle Legend and Club Ambassador Gary Sawyer play football with young visitors to the zoo. Dash of Silver held a cancer awareness day for the Argyle first-team players and staff at the Green Taverners, highlighting the importance of self-examination and early diagnosis.

Trust Business and Impact Manager Dwain Morgan said: “We are delighted to welcome Dartmoor Zoo and Dash of Silver to Home Park for this afternoon’s fixture. We are proud to have worked with the charities across the season following the release of our charity policy which reinforces the club’s commitment to supporting causes on a long-term basis.

We look forward to building a legacy and continuing to learn of the impact of our collaborative work. Aligning with the club’s visions and values it is important to ensure an impactful and measurable difference to the communities we proudly serve, and we look forward to learning how our partnership has and will continue to demonstrate this.”
