Argyle Community Trust’s employability team and partners are celebrating the incredible outcomes of a recent ‘Skills Builders’ course cohort, which saw an incredible 75% of adult participants progress directly into employment, education, or further training, with many more securing job offers and volunteering opportunities.
The four-week programme, delivered in partnership with City College Plymouth and Plymouth Job Centres, is designed to equip adults aged 18 and over with the essential confidence and practical skills needed to take meaningful steps toward a secure future.
Throughout the course, participants engaged in a range of hands-on, practical learning opportunities, including:
- Career Essentials – CV and cover letter writing, interview preparation, and realistic mock interviews with local employers and business leaders
- Personal Development – Workshops focusing on health, wellbeing, and building self-confidence
- Accredited Training – Essential skills like first aid certification
- Tailored Support – One-to-one mentoring and coaching throughout the journey
The programme culminated in a dynamic ‘Get Hired Day’ event, where participants applied their skills and showcased their progress directly by connecting and interviewing with real employers.
The Impact
The cohort demonstrated significant outcomes:
- 75% Progression – Three out of four participants successfully progressed into employment, education, or training.
- Immediate Job Offers – Many secured job and volunteering opportunities as a direct result of the programme.
- Confidence Boost – Participants reported noticeable increases in confidence, particularly in professional settings and networking.
- Clear Pathways – Improved interview readiness and greater clarity about their personal strengths, career pathways, and employability skills.
A delighted Caitlin Jones, Trust Skills Manager, commented: “We are immensely proud of the dedication and growth shown by every participant. Their progression rate is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when the right support, guidance, and opportunities combine.
“Together with City College Plymouth, we’re helping people unlock their potential, build confidence, and take a major step toward a brighter, ore secure future.”
