EFL Girls CupA TEAM representing Plymouth Argyle performed brilliantly in the recent EFL Girls Cup Regional Finals to reach the last four.

After winning the local competition at Goals Soccer Centre, the girls from Ivybridge Community College travelled up to Bristol for a tournament that also included teams from Yeovil Town, Swindon Town, Exeter City, Cardiff City, Newport County, Bristol City and Bristol Rovers.

The girls made a stunning start by defeating Yeovil and Swindon before being held to a goalless draw in the Devon derby with Exeter. A run of defeats jeopardised our place in the semi-finals but a thumping 5-1 win over Bristol Rovers was enough to book a last-four slot.

We met eventual winners Bristol City at the semi-final stage and just came up short, losing 3-2 in a thrilling encounter but still a fine achievement for all the girls.

Plymouth Argyle Ladies Manager Dave Leonard took charge of the team and he said: “I am proud of how our girls stepped up to the challenge on the day, a brilliant showcase of talent with young players showing true class within the games. It was a great day to be involved in and congratulations to Bristol City for winning the cup.”
