Sam BartonTHE journey taken by Sam Barton is a clear example of the professional opportunities available for graduates at Plymouth Argyle.

After partaking in Argyle’s first ever National Citizen Service (NCS), Sam was enlisted onto the education programme, studying for a BTEC Level 3 in Sport Development, Coaching and Fitness.

Sam then enrolled on the BA Hons Football Development and Coaching Degree at the University of St Mark and John (Marjon) after completing his education programme with Argyle. From football finance to practical coaching, the three-year course covered a variety of modules.

“I enjoyed the football and finance module as it enabled me to understand the inner workings of a professional football club, such as Argyle,” said Sam.

“As part of my degree, I did my work experience at the club. This gave me all the experience I needed on the social inclusion side, which was very beneficial to me when I applied for the job at Argyle.

Now, Sam works for Argyle as the Lead Inclusion Coach and he states that “the degree and work experience really helped set me up for my role here.

“Argyle has helped me through my past five years of football education and I am delighted to be working in the team at Argyle Community Trust.”
