ARGYLE Ladies completed their pre season with another impressive victory on Wednesday night against a robust Torquay outfit.
Manager Travis Rowland included in the squad two youngsters from the second team, Faye Ivall and Lucy Solloway, and with goalkeeper Micheala Phillips unavailable, captain Kate Middleton donned the glove in the first half and Mollie Taylor in the second.
Argyle dominated from the start in very wet conditions, but had to find a way past a packed Torquay set up. In view of this, the only goal of the first half came when Ebony Dover headed in a corner.$
Rowlands brought on Ivall and Solloway in the second half, and both performed well. Argyle kept prodding away in the second half with Natasha Knapman showing her goal-scoring prowess by knocking in a quick brace inside two minutes. Victory was sealed when Middleton converted a penalty.
Rowland said: “It was a good final work out in terrible conditions as we had to find a way past a massed defence. It was also a bit physical and a number of players came off with knocks. I was impressed with the way both Faye (Ivall) and Lucy (Solloway) adapted to playing at this level. We now have to regroup and prepare for our opening league match at St Nicholas on Sunday.”
