Trust proud to celebrate launch of Sherford Sports Hub

We were delighted to announce the launch of the Sherford Sports Hub with our community open day in 2024!

We are immensely proud to have celebrated the opening of this fantastic facility with members of our community.

We welcomed participants to engage in some exciting football sessions on the all-weather astro pitch and to practice their serve on the six pristine tennis courts on offer.

We had our Pilgrim Pizza van on hand to serve up some fresh pizza to our participants, alongside Project 35 in partnership with Ginsters who handed out some delicious Ginsters products!

The day wouldn’t have been complete without an appearance from Pilgrim Pete who got straight down to business in a penalty shootout with some of the young players from Sherford Vale Football Club.

Local councillor John Stephens said: “As a local councillor for Plymouth City Council, I’m thrilled that this facility has opened. Even though the weather is bleak today, it’s still attracted loads of children for the football and tennis tasters.

“Lots of areas in Plymouth and other parts of the country would envy this facility on Sherford’s doorstep, and it’s great that people of all ages, from newbies to people who excel at sports can have a go in these facilities. You’d hope it will become an integral part of life in Sherford.”

This facility is designed to bring people together and give back to the local community through sports.

There will be opportunities to play tennis with qualified coaches at least once a week and to hire equipment for free.

We will be running sports sessions, community outreach activities, and holiday clubs from the Sherford Sports Hub to help support our aims of creating a vibrant and active community.

Lewis Coombes, Head of Facilities, said: “It’s a fantastic opportunity for us an organisation to bring our activities, our services and our programs into the Sherford community.

“We know there’s a lot of need, and we want to work with those people. We want to work with the local organisations such as the Sherford Trust and the primary school to develop the opportunities for young people to engage with us, to be physically active, and to support them on their physical activity journey.”

Everyone at Argyle Community Trust would like to say a massive thank you to all who attended to celebrate this brilliant new facility, and we are excited to see our community grow.
