Nominations have opened for the Plymouth Youth Awards, a ceremony dedicated to honouring exceptional young people from across the city. Taking place on Thursday, 20 June 2024, the awards will recognise individuals up to the age of 18 who are making a positive impact in their community.
Set to be an annual celebration that puts the next generation in the spotlight, the Plymouth Youth Awards will demonstrate that young people can be a force for change in their own lives and communities. The event will showcase people and projects making a difference across Plymouth.
The Trust are supporting this special event by sponsoring the Sports Person of the Year award. The award recognises an individual who is making positive contributions to the sports community through personal achievement, leadership, or service.
Trust Business and Impact Manager Dwain Morgan said: “We are proud to be supporting the Youth Awards 2024 – in particular, recognising the abundance of exciting young sports people in the city.
“As a charity at the heart of Plymouth communities, we work with young people of all ages, genders, and abilities, developing local talent and removing barriers to participation.
“We also see first-hand the positive difference young people can make to communities through our outreach work, and the inspiring social impact projects we see them deliver every year. We look forward to recognising and celebrating this with the city.”
The final will be held at the glamourous Crowne Plaza and will be hosted by BBC Broadcaster David Fitzgerald and Toby Gorniak MBE. There are 16 awards up for grabs including Young Carer of the Year, Unsung Hero, and Outstanding Contribution to the Community.
The Plymouth Youth Awards has been launched by YMCA Plymouth, which is a well-known youth and family’s charity that has been serving the local community for over 150 years.
CEO of the charity Tom Lavis celebrates the launch of the inaugural Youth Awards by commenting: “Young people are often the unsung heroes of our communities, working hard behind the scenes to make a difference. We want to place a spotlight on brilliant young people and celebrate the impact they’re having in their daily lives.
“The awards will not only bring together the finalists and their supporters, but we want the city’s business community to come out in force too! Instead of hosting tables of seasoned professionals, we hope to see young talent being invited along to celebrate their peers and experience how the region recognises greatness. If you know an outstanding young person who should be recognised, please get nominating!”
Nominations are now open for the Youth Awards and close on Friday, 15 December 2023.
